Summary
GENERAL SUMMARY:
Performs diagnostic x-ray procedures and computed tomography (CT)
procedures under the supervision of a qualified physician. Uses XR
and CT technology and techniques to assist in the diagnosis of
patient medical problems for patients throughout the age
continuum.
PRINCIPAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- *Commits to the mission, vision, beliefs and consistently

- *Performs all types of diagnostic x-ray procedures including,
but not limited to, fluoroscopy, portable diagnostic, and portable
fluoroscopy.
- Performs all CT studies to include diagnostic and
interventional procedures, practices radiation safety for patients,
staff and self.
- Performs all types of Computerized Tomography (CT) procedures
within three (3) months of hire.
- *Uses sterile technique as required.
- *Optimally demonstrates patient anatomy through proper
positioning and selection of technical factors, while shielding
appropriately.
- *Performs venipuncture.
- *Competently operates all diagnostic x-ray equipment including
but not limited to portable and stationary x-ray machines,
fluoroscopy equipment including C-Arms, O-Arm, and CT equipment to
support systems including HIS, RIS, Scheduling System, PACS, and
teleradiography, and performs and evaluates images for technical
quality.
- *Utilizes department computer systems, PACS, etc., to review
patient history and provide accurate documentation of
studies.
- *Properly cares for and performs imaging patients of all ages;
maintains patient confidentiality.
- *Coordinates exams within the department and with other
departments to provide expedient and complete care; communicates
with medical staff, coworkers, patients, families, and other
hospital staff to ensure quality patient care.
- *Handles telephone calls for scheduling, coordination, or
questions with courtesy and accuracy.
- *Participates in the departments quality improvement plan as
required.
- *Cleans, disinfects, and maintains equipment as necessary;
notifies coordinator of equipment problems and calls appropriate
service vendors as needed.
- *Keeps work area properly supplied.
- Meets on-call responsibilities and responds within the allotted
time limit.
- Assists with departmental orientation and student clinical
education as directed.
- Assists in the future planning of the CT department.
- *Accesses and administers drugs and biologicals that are
pertinent to essential job functions in accordance with Medical
Center procedures.
- Maintains professional growth and development through seminars,
workshops, and professional affiliations to keep abreast of the
latest trends in the field of expertise.
- Participates in meetings, committees, and department projects
as assigned.
- Performs other related projects and duties as assigned.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Maintains clinical competency as required for the unit,
including but not limited to age-specific competencies relative to
patients growth and developmental needs, annual skill competency
verification, and mandatory education and competencies.
- Knowledge of positioning, use of technical factors, and
radiation safety practices.
- Knowledge of CT non-invasive and invasive procedures.
- Knowledge of federal and state regulations related to
radiography.
- Knowledge of computer hardware equipment and software
applications relevant to work functions.
- Skill in operating equipment, PACS, and other related
systems.
- Ability to react appropriately and perform work effectively
under stressful and emergent situations.
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in
writing.
- Ability to perform crucial conversations with desired
outcomes.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working
relationships with all levels of personnel and medical
staff.
- Ability to problem solve and engage independent critical
thinking skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality relevant to sensitive
information.

- Ability to care for diverse patients throughout the age
continuum.

- Ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Graduate from a school of radiologic technology with current
certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists
(ARRT) required. Certification in CT is highly suggested within 12
months of hire. A valid state medical radiographer license is
required.
OTHER CREDENTIALS / CERTIFICATIONS:
Basic Life Support (CPR) certification required. Bryan Health
recognizes American Heart Association (for healthcare
professionals), American Red Cross (for healthcare professionals)
and the Military Training Network.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
(Physical Requirements are based on federal criteria and assigned
by Human Resources upon review of the Principal Job Functions.)
(DOT) Characterized as medium work requiring exertion of 20 to 50
pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force
frequently, and/or a greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of
force constantly to move objects.
