Summary
GENERAL SUMMARY:
At the direction of the Registered Nurse (RN) and/or Licensed
Practitioners, the Staff Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) contributes
to meeting patients priority needs by assessing and participating
in interdisciplinary care planning, providing delegated care and
timely communication of the patients response. Contributes to an
efficient and effective work environment through activities
including professional communication and documentation.
PRINCIPAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. *Commits to the mission, vision, beliefs and consistently
demonstrates our core values.
2. *Contributes to the assessment and reassessment based on the
patients presenting problems/needs in accordance with Bryan Medical
Centers procedures.
3. *Communicates pertinent initial and ongoing patient data to the
RN for identification of nursing priorities of care and desired
outcomes/goals.
4. *Utilizes appropriate standards of care based on the patients
diagnosis and age-specific needs.
5. *Executes therapeutic and/or supportive interventions under the
direction of the RN.
6. *As directed by the RN, provides education for the patient and
family to meet identified patient needs according to their needs,
abilities, preferences and readiness to learn.
7. *Participates in the evaluation of the patients response to and
effectiveness of interventions.
8. *Incorporates cultural considerations into the plan/delivery of
care as directed by the RN.
9. *Includes family or significant others in the care of the
patient as appropriate.
10. *Documents patient care and related information according to
Grand Island Regional Medical Center procedures for
documentation.
11. *Enters patient care orders into the computer accurately and
consistently according to policy and procedure.
12. *Provides care in conjunction with other members of the
interdisciplinary team.
13. *Provides close observation or one-to-one care, as directed by
the RN, to prevent patients from wandering or potential injury.
14. *Contributes to the patients transition to the next level of
care.
15. *Assumes responsibility in a shared or delegated assignment and
supports team members practices through timely communication.
16. *Serves as a role model to colleagues, students and other care
providers.
17. Maintains professional growth and development through seminars,
workshops, and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest
trends in field of expertise.
18. Participates in meetings, committees and department projects as
assigned.
19. Performs other related projects and duties as assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
1. Maintains clinical competency as required for the unit including
but not limited to age-specific competencies relative to patients
growth and developmental needs, annual skill competency
verification and mandatory education and competencies.
2. Knowledge of federal and state regulations related to nursing
applications and relative practice area.
3. Knowledge of computer hardware equipment and software
applications relevant to work functions.
4. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in
writing.
5. Ability to perform crucial conversations with desired
outcomes.
6. Ability to establish and maintain effective working
relationships with all levels of personnel and medical staff.
7. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment related to changing
patient needs, including work with patients with acute, chronic,
and complex disease processes, and those who are dying.
8. Ability to problem solve and engage independent critical
thinking skills.
9. Ability to maintain confidentiality relevant to sensitive
information.
10. Ability to prioritize work demands and work with minimal
supervision.
11. Ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Graduation from a School of Practical Nursing with current
licensure from the State of Nebraska or approved compact state of
residence as defined by the Nebraska Nurse Practice Act. Must
provide evidence of certification and/or instruction for practice
area as required by State or Federal standards/regulations.
OTHER CREDENTIALS / CERTIFICATIONS:
Basic Life Support (CPR) certification required. Bryan Health
recognizes American Heart Association (for healthcare
professionals), American Red Cross (for healthcare professionals)
and the Military Training Network.
