Job Title: Registered Nurse (RN) Job Specialty: Stepdown - Progressive Care Unit (PCU) Job Duration: 13 Weeks Shift: 12-Hour Nights Guaranteed Hours: 36 Hours per Week Experience: Minimum 2 Years License: Current RN License Required Certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS Must-Have: - Strong teamwork skills - Friendly and positive attitude - Commitment to positive patient experience Job Description: - Department: Stepdown - Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS - 33 beds in the unit - Nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:4-5 - Common diagnoses include sepsis, STEMI, CHF, chest pain, COVID, stroke, renal failure, COPD, and DKA; patients range from young adults to geriatrics with complex medical issues including multisystem failure - RNs are required to titrate drips including Heparin, Amiodarone, Cardizem, Nitroglycerin, IV antibiotics, and Insulin; maintenance doses of IV meds (non-titratable) - Charge Nurse presence on each shift; Charge Nurse takes on assignments - CNAs available based on unit census with a ratio of 1:10 - RT equipment includes BiPAP and Airvo - RNs must read and interpret their own strips using brand-specific tele monitors - Scheduling involves unit schedulers creating traveler schedules with shifts from 0630-1900 and 1830-0700 - Weekend and holiday requirements apply as needed to meet unit needs - Floating to MedSurg, Inpatient Rehab, or Skilled Care is required - Scrub color for RN: Navy Blue - Orientation includes one week in the classroom followed by two 12-hour shifts on the floor - The unit experiences a busy patient flow, often admitting and discharging within a six-hour timeframe while also completing shift change - Engagement in positive patient experiences with commitment to bedside report and hourly rounding is encouraged
