Summary
GENERAL SUMMARY:
The Nurse Manager is responsible for the development, supervision
and coordination of all nursing services provided within the
overall nursing services department and serves as the Trauma Nurse
Coordinator. Ensures effective communication of up-to-date
information within nursing services and across departments to
encourage teamwork and safe patient transitions and handoffs.
Provides supervision of personnel and oversight of daily operations
including Medical/Surgical and Emergency Department. Ensures team
members are consistent in their delivery of compassionate and
exceptional patient care and service excellence through
performance, quality, and behavior standards and expectations.
PRINCIPAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Commits to the mission, vision, beliefs and consistently

- Participates in and/or leads meetings, committees, strategic
planning and lean projects as assigned.
- Serves as Service Excellence champion including implementation,
competencies, and hardwiring of service excellence
initiatives.
- Oversees formulations of goals and objectives.
- Oversees the departmental budgetary procedure to ensure proper
operational and capital planning; appropriate and efficient use of
resources, and consistent compliance to budgetary and fiscal
controls.
- Responsible for hiring, training, supervising, coaching,
mentoring, retaining and evaluating of staff.
- Keeps informed of current issues including new procedures,
developments, and innovation. Maintains professional growth and
development through seminars, workshops, and professional
affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in field of
expertise.
- Performs service excellence must-haves to achieve an excellent
patient/customer experience.
- Uses quality improvement processes, programs or outcome to help
improve department operations
- Promotes effective communication, collaboration, quality, and
efficiency between departments and managers within and outside the
nursing services department.
- Ensures consistent staff rounding of team members.
- Ensures consistent practice of best practices such as SBAR,
AIDET, hourly rounding, post discharge, etc.
- Responsible for the overall quality of care delivered to
patients including implementation, execution, follow up, and
measurement through nursing services and in alignment with the
overall Medical Center Quality Plan.
- Responsible for a robust communication plan for the nursing
division including monthly meetings, change of shift report,
physician - nursing communication, etc. to support effective and
up-to-date communication.
- Serves as a connection between day and night shift, creating
desired shift-to-shift teamwork and care consistency.
- Coordinates nursing schedule. Plans with Chief Nursing Officer
for appropriate utilization of resources.
- Responds to and resolves concerns, problems and potential
problems reported by staff, providers, and patients.
- Performs review of medication errors and provides process
analysis to prevent the recurrence of errors.
- Responsible to meet Critical Access Hospital (CAH) guidelines
and regulations.
- Assists CNO in initiatives related to overall physician
satisfaction, employee satisfaction, and patient satisfaction
results in the nursing services department. Works with and through
others to get positive organizational results.
- Coordinates work hours to accomplish clinical workload as well
as administrative responsibilities.
- Serves as Trauma Coordinator and works in collaboration with
the Trauma Medical Director to organize the trauma services and
system and to coordinate educational, clinical, research,
administrative and outreach activities of the trauma
program.
- Responsible for the trauma registry data abstraction and
submission to the regional trauma registry.
- Develops orientation checklists, policies and procedures, and
education for nursing staff.
- Performs other related projects and duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Graduation from an accredited professional nursing program
required. Current Registered Nurse licensure from the State of
Nebraska or approved compact state of residence as defined by the
Nebraska Nurse Practice Act required. Minimum of three (3) years'
experience in direct patient care in a hospital setting required.
Previous supervisory experience preferred.
OTHER CREDENTIALS / CERTIFICATIONS:
Basic Life Support (CPR) certification required. Bryan Health
recognizes American Heart Association (for healthcare
professionals), American Red Cross (for healthcare professionals)
and the Military Training Network. Advanced Cardiac Life Support
(ACLS), and Trauma Nursing Course Certified (TNCC) required within
one (1) year of date of hire.
